Art of Trash Display 11am to 4:30pm at The Ritz-Carlton, Kapalua

The Naturalists of Jean Michel Cousteau’s Ambassadors of the Environment, team with  Mālama Maui Nui to create a mural of beauty from the trash collected on our ‘aina. Children are welcome to join in and become a part of the mural of imagination towards a cleaner planet.

Visit the display on Saturday, May 9 as part of the 23rd Annual Celebration of the Arts and add your personal touch to the mural.  Recycled materials will be supplied and available to personalize before being adhered to the final mural.

Mālama Maui Nui is a nonprofit organization that empowers the people of Maui County to preserve the beauty of our islands through litter prevention, recycling, and beautification programs. Formerly known as Community Work Day Program, the organization has been promoting environmental stewardship for over twenty years, combining the efforts of individuals, community groups, schools, nonprofits, businesses, and government to protect the unique beauty and culture of our ‘āina.

The partnership between the Jean-Michel Costeau’s Ambassadors of the Environment and Mālama Maui Nui for the “Imagine…Trash to Art” program serves as a great example of how creative reuse and recycling can take place within our community and is available for everyone to take part in, while also highlighting the need to reduce the overall waste generated in Maui County.

The importance of environmental stewardship and how it relates to the preservation of our culture is particularly felt across the Hawaiian Islands, and the “Imagine…Trash to Art” final piece stands as a testament to both those values.
